Marketing Value of Branding, Identity, and Trust

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

By Kevin Adam Who will your potential customers call when they want what you sell? Are you the only one they can call, or do you have competition? Do they go to your website, or someone else’s? What can you do to encourage these potential customers to choose you instead of your competition? All of those are important questions. And, unless yours is the only business in the world doing what you do, you’ve got competition. I’d be willing to bet that at least some of your competitors are reaching out, trying to convince your customers to do business with them. Whether your customers do or not will be the result of many factors, but there’s a lot you can do to keep them coming to you. First - what are identity, branding, and trust? And why did I put them together? Identity is what separates your business from its competitors. It’s your uniqueness; what allows you to continue in business even though you may be faced with numerous competitors. Identity is how your customer recognizes your business, and tells them who you are. Branding is how the customer knows the focus of your business. It’s how they understand the benefit of bringing you their business, instead of to your competitor. It’s the correlation — for customers and non-customers alike — between the product or service you offer and the benefit your business provides. I believe you already know the meaning of trust. So why are these together? It’s because identity, branding, and trust weave together in the public’s eye, and generally differentiate your customers and potential customers from the general public. A business can have an identity without trust, but the group that generally comes from is non-customers or former customers. This is not how you want the majority of your target audience to view your business. It’s OK for your non-customers to have heard about your business, and for it to have an identity. If it’s former customers, they’re either no longer in the market for your services, or you’ve disappointed them in the past. Branding happens when people can see some benefit to doing business with you, rather than a competitor. This goes beyond identity, and is closer to your target market. Once customers understand your branding, they’re more likely to understand the benefits of doing business with you and not go elsewhere. You don’t want your customers going elsewhere if you want your business to thrive. Fortunately, you can build your brand with trust. How do you engender trust? And what does that have to do with marketing? Trust really is the goal of marketing. Sure, you may be able to fool some people with hype, but that isn’t a sustainable business plan. You need to do what you say you’re going to do by providing the products or service you agreed to. Anything less violates the trust your customer places with you when they do business with you. Once you violate their trust, their business disappears and takes at least some referral business with it. Plus, regaining their trust makes your efforts at acquiring new customers look like a simple enterprise. You’ll find it takes far less effort to win a new customer than to restore trust. And, it’s easier and much better business to keep your promises in the first place. So, your marketing must accurately reflect the performance your customer can expect. Anything less will hurt your business. Keep in mind that, in most cases, an honest error made during the course of business won’t shake the loyalty of your customers - provided you correct the error and at least attempt to be sure it won’t happen again. Most valuable customers realize that mistakes will happen, so occasional corrected errors won’t undermine your marketing — provided you keep their trust. Effective Marketing Techniques: Sensual Thrillers

Monday, July 30th, 2007

By Jan Verhoeff Capture the attention of your reader. Reach across the Internet and grab him by the senses. Hell pay attention to you. Every word you read catapults your reader one way, or the other. Hes either walking in the door, captivated by concepts related in your text or hes confounded and repulsed by the words on the page. Effective online marketing techniques include catching your readers attention, and keeping it. The simplest way to capture the attention of your audience is to speak to their senses. Once they can feel it, smell it, taste it, hear it, youve got em. They belong to you, and if you can get them enthusiastic about it at the same time, youve most likely made a sale. During a recent event, my son was asked to give a speech. I heard him preparing and wondered if he really wrote his own speech (I didnt write it). His words were ripe with flavor, integrated colorful visuals with a sweet aroma, and I could hear the music of enthusiasm in his voice. I had no clue what he was talking about, but I wanted to know. Sweet caramel flavor melded with hot steaming coffee, tainted with fluffy puffs of whipped cream, people chattering around the table, and sparkling lights dangling from pine boughs kept coming to mind. I listened while he finished the speech. He was talking about my coffee mug! On those cold winter mornings, when I want something special to drink, I prepare my EzineArticle.com mug with my favorite coffee, drizzle in caramel, top with whipped cream, and curl into my favorite chair in the living room with my laptop in hand. My son has watched me often enough to describe in vivid detail how I make my coffee, and what it does for me. Moms around the room were gazing intently as he spoke, their tongues licking their lips, and a sweet smile of recognition on their faces as they vaguely remembered that moment when they took their first sip of a luscious coffee topped with cream. Dads around the room thought back to their first cup of flavored coffee, and a relaxing moment. He touched on all the senses. Everyone in the room reacted to their own sensual perception of his words. Each person grasps the concept of rich coffee, sweet flavor, and relaxing. Sensual perceptions thrill the reader or the listener. When youre marketing a product or service, the most effective marketing ploys include sensual thrillers to capture the attention of the reader or listener. If visuals are available, visual connections increase marketability. Consider your market and find the sensual perceptions that will most effectively touch that niche market. Marketing Guru, Jan Verhoeff, understands the value of Sensual Thrillers in Marketing Products and Services to her clients. Without the use of words that exploit the senses, marketing becomes flat and looses its luster. Read This Article if You Want to Stop Droughts

By Lance Winslow As our population in the United States grows we have a greater and greater need for fresh water supplies. But only 3% of the Earths water is fresh, the rest is in the oceans and cannot be used for drinking water without a desalination process taking place first. Most of the fresh water on Earth is underground in aquifers and the rest is in rivers, lakes and streams and floating or swirling around in the sky in the form of clouds. Some believe that Hurricanes are terrible disasters to our economic engine and very costly to our nations treasury, this of course cannot be debated after the most recent onslaught of Hurricanes in the record breaking 2005 Hurricane Season with Katrina, Rita and Wilma. But did you know that long-term droughts in our nation have cost our economic productivity and output more by a factor of ten than the recent Hurricanes? It is true. As we expand our populations we are finding that relatively minor drought seasons become major catastrophes and mild years of rainfall or snow pack become exacerbated because we are using more water than is being cycled through the system. You see the problem is, we as Americans are taking our water for granted and we are not conserving this vital resource. We should not waste water, because we will need it later. Even in wet years all it seems to do is barely catch us up even or bring us out of an extreme drought water supply into a tolerable situation. If you want to help the problem be a good steward of our water supplies and conserve water. Think on this. “Lance Winslow” - Online Think Tank forum board. Understanding Varicose Veins

Thursday, July 26th, 2007

By Anne Wolski A vein is a blood vessel that carries blood throughout the body. Normally, these veins do their job like a well oiled pump but sometimes these veins break down, causing the flow of blood to become abnormal. I am sure most of us have, or know someone who has the enlarged, twisted, superficial veins in their lower legs and ankles known as varicose veins. Varicose veins can occur in any part of the body but are more common in the lower extremities. These veins can be due to genetic default but this is not the only cause. Other contributing factors can be prolonged standing or pregnancy. For many women, the first signs of varicose veins appear during pregnancy. Obesity is also a contributing factor. The added pressure of supporting excess weight is almost certain to result in chronic venous breakdown. The signs and symptoms of varicose veins not only includes the unsightly rope-like veins but also a constant dull ache, cramps, swelling and fatigue after standing. There may also be a brownish discolouration of the skin which is known as stasis pigmentation. This is caused by a breakdown of blood cells leading to a leakage in the affected area and is common in people who have suffered from this condition for a lengthy period of time. Usually diagnosis is simply a case of visual observation but sometimes a procedure called phlebography is used. This is a painless procedure in which a solution called a radio-opaque contrast medium is introduced into the bloodstream. Imaging of the veins is then carried out to detect the abnormalities in the blood flow and venous pressure. Another diagnostic procedure available is the use of ultrasound to examine the blood flow in the major arteries and veins in the arms and legs. This procedure is known as Dopplers ultrasonography. Ultrasound is high frequency sound waves that echo off the body. It is performed by applying a water soluble gel to the body and then passing a hand held device known as a transducer over the area. Treatment of varicose veins an be as simple as wearing elasticised compression stockings, controlling your weight, undertaking a moderate exercise program, avoiding prolonged periods of standing, and elevating the legs whenever possible. Another method of treatment is called compression sclerotherapy. In this procedure, points of abnormal flow from deep to superficial veins are located and permanently obliterated by the injection of a substance called a sclerosant. Application of continuous pressure then restores the pumping capacity of the vein. In severe cases, a surgical procedure called stripping and ligation may be considered necessary. During this surgery, one or more incisions are made over the varicose veins, and the vein is tied off (ligated). If several valves in the vein and the vein itself are heavily damaged, the vein (or the diseased part of the vein) is usually removed (stripped). An incision is made below the varicose vein, a flexible instrument is threaded up the vein to the first incision, and the vein is grasped and removed. If you have varicose veins, it is necessary to seek medical advice. Your health practitioner will advise you of treatment options and will assist you in the care of your condition. Wedding Planning, Complete Guide How to Avoid the Stress

Monday, July 16th, 2007

By Gordon Petten Although a wedding is supposed to be one of the most joyous days of your life, many couples find themselves stressing out at the last minute as they scramble to get everything completed in time for the ceremony. Everyone wants their wedding day to be perfect, but the downside of this is that couples often scrutinize over trivial decisions and waste a lot of time. Hence, when it is time for the ceremony, there are often many things that still need to be completed. A wedding is not supposed to be stressful and the following tips in the guide below should help to minimize stress. The first thing you need to do is start early. You do not want to procrastinate planning a wedding because if you do, you are setting yourself up for failure. Make sure that you have the essentials, a venue, banquet hall, dress and tuxedo, food, and various other items booked well in advance to make sure that they will be available on your wedding day. The next thing you need to do is to stay organized and one of the best ways to do this is by utilizing the checklist. A list will help you organize your thoughts and get them on paper so you do not forget them. Establish everything you need to get done and one by one complete all tasks on the list so that you know you will be prepared when your wedding day finally rolls around. Make sure to complete the larger tasks, like booking a chef and venue for your wedding first, and then breeze through the rest of the items on the checklist. The final tip that will help make your wedding day as stress free as possible is to not scrutinize and analyze every little decision as many couples tend to do. In short, “dont sweat the small stuff.” If you like certain tablecloths and invitations, use them and don’t waste time searching through hundreds of other invitation cards or napkin options so you can spend more time focusing on the more important aspects of a wedding. If you follow the three tips above and make sure to get everything completed as early as possible, your wedding day should be a much more enjoyable ceremony with les stress and more joy than if you are awake the night before trying to make sure that you have completed everything. The Scenic Model Railroad: Creativity at Its Best Part I

Saturday, July 14th, 2007

By Michael W.P. Ball One of the greatest joys of model railroading is creating a scenic display that represents nature as its own creative art work somewhere in the World. The variables that one encounters are endless in the imagination of what he or she wants a layout to look like around the track work which includes bridges, buildings, mills, coal mines, etc. You may duplicate some scene from nature or you may decide to create a scenic landscape that is all your own. What are the various products available to build a scenic landscape for your railroad? There are several means in which you can build such a scene. The easiest way to build a scenic railroad is to build an open frame layout which gives you height and contour so you have pre-made elevations to work with. Your choice of size or area to develop a layout is based on the area that you have to work with. You may even build your layout on a sheet of plywood or the like. I wouldn’t recommend it because you will get frustrated after a while and want to have something a bit more realistic for your layout. Before beginning the scenic part of the layout, you must plan out your trackage. The main routes, yards, single and duel trackage, by passes, along with station points and possibly a roundhouse. The best procedure is to build all the trackage first, with your elevations, tunnel portal locations, bridge locations and your predetermined ruling grade. Once this is accomplished you may begin to build mountains, hills, streams, canyons, gorges where bridges would go, rivers and other unique characteristics that will provide scenic beauty through the layout. The tools required are putty knives, water, Hot Gun for gluing, scissors, plastic bucket or large plastic bowel, wood stirring device like used for paint, possibly an electric stapler, masking tape and paper towels. The types of products available are numerous. Much of it is general household material that you would normally through away. For example, cut up cardboard strips one inch wide from boxes to what ever length you need. If the card board isn’t quiet long enough splice together a strip using a Hot Glue Gun. The card board is the means to build a general frame of mountain or mountain ranges, small hills, track sidings, etc. You may want to use chicken wire and bend it to your liking and staple the edges to the appropriate mounting points to create what you want. You will still need some type of supporting material to hold the chicken wire in place such as heavy card board or prices of wood. I don’t recommend it for it is expensive, heavy and difficult to handle. The other form of contour making is to use Styrofoam. It can be cut/shaved to the height and depth you want. Once the basic mountain is formed it can be covered with different kinds of media to create a mountain of your choice. Basically you have to have some kind of format that creates a skeleton for other materials to be added to form a realistic mountain, etc. The material used to cover your skeletal frame may very depending on usage. 1. Portland cements contoured onto the surface of the projected mountain with a paper or cloth medium that will allow the adherence of the cement. 2. The aforementioned material may be covered over Styrofoam and let to dry. Once this process is accomplished you need to seal and contour your mountains or what ever scene you are creating. 3. You may hand plaster the mountain using different size putty knives. 4. With Hydracal, you must work fast or make up small batches as it will get hard very fast. 5. Coating of chicken wire will take some kind of semi-porous medium that will soak up plaster such as paper towels or the like. 6. Use Hydracal or Portland cements with cover materials that will not allow the material to drip through the chicken wire. 7. With any of these methods, you may use vermiculite as a rock looking cover while the choice of media is still wet. 8. Small pebbles or rough sand will also act as a good covering simulating open ground slides or patches of rocks. My choice of materials that best suits my needs seems the quickest and cheapest way to create what ever scene desired. I use material that I mentioned before. The cardboard strips and the Woodland Scenics plaster cloth. Included with this product is a product called Sculptamold which comes in a semi-powder form with fine shredded paper like paper Mache. You add water to it until it has a semi-loose consistence. Using a putty knife you mold the Sculptamold onto the dry plaster cloth completely covering the surface. Different shapes and contours can be produced that look like most rock formations found. You can work with the Sculptamold while wet to create a ridge, canyon walls, over hangs, etc. Do not over do it when making up the Sculptamold for it will harden on you within about a half an hour. The temperature of the room has an effect on the water evaporation rate. Just work in away that will cover the surface in a timely manner. Don’t get into a hurry. In the Part II article we will discuss the painting of the mountains and other formations, addition of various grasses, plants, shrubs and trees along with artificial water. Learn to build culverts for the water to flow; addition of real rocks and other materials including bridges, tunnels and walls to create realistic scenes.
