Early Info on The Apple iPhone

Saturday, September 29th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Madison_Lockwood]Madison Lockwood Apple Computers (Now Apple Inc.) has recovered from years of corporate doldrums through the introduction of an innovative line of computers but more importantly, through the phenomenal success of the iPod. Apple more or less created the market for personal digital MP3 players and has sold millions of units, along with millions of songs through their online music store. Now the video world is coming into the handheld market - virtually every cell phone has a screen of some sort and the recent iPods have video screens as well. Apple’s most recent product introduction is the much-hyped iPhone, which combines the functions of a cell phone, a “wide screen” iPod with touch controls, and an Internet communications device. Apple has chosen to make an exclusive deal with Cingular, the AT&T cell phone network. Your only source for an iPhone will be through Cingular, along with a Cingular cellular service contract. They plan to make the product available in June. Back in the digital dark ages, Apple made the choice to keep their computer operating system in house, while Microsoft moved beyond IBM and licensed to any computer manufacturer who wanted it. It was the most important misstep that Apple has ever made, and is the reason that they will probably never extend beyond ten to twelve percent of the computer market. It will be interesting to see what happens when iPhone clones begin to appear in Verizon and other cell operator outlets. The 4GB iPhone model will cost $499 with a two-year contract and $599 for the 8GB version (also with a two-year contract). Those are expensive phones, but Apple is in a unique position in that it has a dedicated core of iPod fans that may become Cingular converts. The iPhone’s design is cutting edge: it has done away with keypads and with the exception of a “home” button the controls are operated on a 3.5 inch square touch screen. According to early reviews the videos and photos look great. One giant touch screen controls the phone, the picture component and the videos - no stylus needed. For text messaging, there will be an onscreen keyboard - again controlled by touch. Apple’s iTunes store has gone into the video business, most recently negotiating a distribution contract with Paramount. Videos are downloaded onto the iPhone the same way that music is: through a wired connection to your computer. Apple’s decision to push the viability of the iPhone as a video viewing device raises a couple of questions. The first is how satisfactory watching a movie on a three and a half inch screen will be, and the second is whether or not 8GB is enough to manage a library of music and video content. The current largest video iPod model has 60GB of space, in comparison. For Internet and video functionality, the iPhone runs on the most recent Mac operating system. It has a 2 megapixel camera and promises support for Google maps, conference calling, and text and multimedia messaging. In short, all the features are included that young people use their phones for today, along with increasing numbers of traveling execs. The iPhone has Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity and includes both email software and a browser. If you judge by the hype, Apple is betting big on the iPhone. It’s worth noting, however, that Steve Jobs is pretty good at hyping every new Apple product. But the integration of telecommunications, video, and full blown Internet interconnectivity into the revered iPod is a major step - and the cell service completes an impressive multimedia package. It should be interesting. Madison Lockwood is a customer relations associate for ApolloHosting.com. Slow Down For Weight Loss

Thursday, September 27th, 2007

By Donovan Baldwin Ask anyone who meditates or practices yoga regularly, and they will tell you that either one helps you slow down and get in touch with yourself. I, like many others, have always assumed that being in touch with one’s self was a good thing if a little hard to quantify and measure. However, there is one part of us that can be quantified and measured, and that is how much we weigh. As a society, there seems to be a lot more of each of us to get in touch with than there used to be. There are even those that are calling obesity an epidemic, both here in the U. S. and in other countries as well. There are certainly many people who want to take charge of their lives and bring their own weight under control but who either do not know where or how to start, are not sure how to find the time in busy schedules for regular exercise, or who are simply daunted by the entire mass of data and life style change represented by adopting the proper exercise and nutritional changes that they know must occur. Therein lies the crux of the matter. Although many people may not be aware of this fact, the weight loss equation has been solved long since. Eat more calories than you burn and you will gain weight. Burn more calories than you eat and you will lose weight. Those without this knowledge pursue all sorts of diet gimmicks, fad diets, and sometimes dangerous diet pills when simply making a few lifestyle changes over time would eventually lead to weight loss and a healthier body. Even those with this knowledge are often confused about what to do and when to do it, or just feel that it is one more straw in the pile that surely will eventually break the camel’s back. While I normally advocate biting the bullet, and not another fudge brownie, and, say as the commercial says, “Just do it!”, the fact is that a little helpful tip or hint here or there might help some people start their climb up out of the obesity pit. One such tip is simply, as the yoga practitioners and people who meditate have known for years, to slow down. Life lived at a hectic pace can not only create stress which can contribute to weight gain through “stress eating” and the action of normal chemicals within the body such as cortisol, but eating too fast can contribute to weight gain as well. In fact, researchers at the University of Rhode Island at Kingston have found more than one way that slowing down at the breakfast, lunch, and dinner tables can help us lose weight. In one study, participants lowered their calorie intake simply because the researchers told them to take their time. When told to eat as quickly as possible on the other hand, they ingested more calories. Researchers also used such tips as having them lay down their spoons between bites, and chew their food thoroughly, between 15 and 20 times. This chewing thing is interesting, because I had heard about a “chewing diet” in which participants were to chew their food several times before swallowing. It all sounded a little mystical to me, and I was inclined to write it off until I read more about research at the University of Rhode Island. It seems that when the diner chews the food 15-20 times, several things happen. Apparently, the trigger is that thorough chewing helps to release about 50% more nutrients in the first minute after the food enters the stomach. As a result, blood flow to the digestive organs is raised nearly instantly raising the metabolism. This, in turn, results in a more rapid onset of a feeling of fullness, causing the diner to feel full…and finished…sooner, thus preventing the ingestion of excess calories. It has long been known that one problem with weight loss is that we simply tend to eat more food than we really need or want. Part of this is the result of the fact that signals of fullness take their own sweet time getting through to the brain, allowing us to take in more food than was really required or desired. So, slow down. Chew your food carefully. Enjoy the taste and flavor of each morsel. Maybe even take smaller bites. The researchers also found that giving the participants smaller spoons helped. Lists of diet tips have long included the admonition to serve meals on smaller plates as that helped the portions appear bigger and more psychologically satisfying. Take this little bit of information, add a little bit of exercise, and start making some better choices about what you eat, and you might find that you have created the start of an effective weight loss program. Emotional Eating: 5 Tips for a Lifelong Challenge

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007

By Carol Solomon Heres a note from my inbox: Hi Carol, Thank you so much for this week’s newsletter. I have often said that food (simple carbs and sugar) are as addictive as drugs and alcohol. Although, I try not to limit myself to a low-carb lifestyle (I now know that restricting any food only backfires), I do know that eating just one cookie is extremely difficult for me. I know that eating a bagel, even a low-carb bagel, is going to leave me feeling like I want more to eat even though I may not be hungry. I often feel like the alcoholic who cannot have just one drink. I am still trying to balance not restricting any foods with the reality of the reaction that I know my body will have if I have simple carbs. This emotional eating is truly a life long challenge for me and I am not sure that I will ever get to the point where I feel completely at ease about eating. I have gained weight over the summer. I feel like I won the battle but I have lost the war. Luckily, there is always a new day and although today wasn’t perfect (I did manage to have just one cookie–although it was the size of my hand–it wasn’t the worst either. Hopefully, tomorrow will be better. Thank you for everything. DR Dear DR, Thanks for your note. It can certainly feel like a war when you are trying to find peace with yourself and your urges. It is always harder to unlearn habits, especially when they result in temporary comfort. I think the hardest part of this is giving yourself permission to eat, without feeling terrified of what will happen when you do. It takes time to develop trust in yourself. It also takes support over time. IDEALLY, you will become able to give yourself permission to eat anything AND choose foods that feel good in your body. You have already developed an awareness of how different foods impact your body and your cravings. So you are making progress. Feeling like you have a CHOICE, and honoring what feels good in your body is empowering. While I dont know if you will ever feel completely at ease, you can get to the point where you are: 1. not beating yourself up 2. know that you can get back on track quickly, and . . . 3. not feeling so discouraged when you have a lapse Heres some tips to help you along the way: 1. Be sure to acknowledge your successes (no matter how small). 2. Cheer yourself on for the smallest win. 3. Share your successes with a friend, someone who understands your struggle. 4. Keep a journal of what went well, and why it is important to keep a positive focus, and NOTICE and ACKNOWLEDGE yourself for what you did that worked. 5. Practice relaxing around food as much as you can its just food . . . really. Try to be calm, purposeful and present in your body. Dont forget to breathe and be grateful for what you have. Entrepreneurs - What Can You Learn From Dolly About Managing Your Customers?

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

By Lee Lister Dolly Parton is a very recognizable business women. She has built an international multi dollar business from her great singing voice. As she is so popular her entertainment shows get popular but she still manages to get everyone in happy! What can we learn from the way she does business? Well let’s have a look at the Dolly Parton Dinner Show experience and my visit there one Christmas. The dinner show is based in Orlando, Florida on the major junction before you turn off for Disney and as close to Disney property as possible. * The excellent positioning of the very large show building (in the shape of a large barn) on the main highway and major Orlando Vacation area junction, complete with large flashing signs, show times and telephone number that you can see from a long way away and as you line up to exit for Disney. * There were two shows that evening and as people flowed out clutching their souvenirs (glasses, flag etc.), we flowed in. The car park was large enough to manage cars, vans, taxies and coaches without getting choked up and the shows swapped over quickly and efficiently. Well if we translate this into business marketing terms we learn: * Positioning is always important - brick or click put yourself in the best possible position that you can afford. If you have a store or office - establish yourself where you can be found and are visible by the passerby. If you have a web site then make sure that you have good prominent links on as many major web sites as you can afford/get. This includes Google, Yahoo, MSN etc, but also look around for directories etc. * Make sure that your contact details are easily found in your store or office, your marketing materials, your letters, your email and your web site. People feel more confident in dealing with you, they can order easily and can ask any questions that are stopping them from currently ordering. * Make sure that visiting your store or site and purchasing is an efficient, comfortable and quick experience. No waiting in long lines, no insecure payment areas, no waiting to get the product or service and definitely no surprising extra costs as you get to the check out counter. * If you have a web site make sure that you have enough bandwidth to handle your customers and answer your emails within a few hours. * If you have a retail or office environment - ensure that you have sufficient parking and a large enough office or store that can be easily found from the car park. Hope that the above has given you plenty to think about. Cure Arthritis? Right!

Saturday, September 22nd, 2007

By Patricia R. Moynihan Arthritis sufferers are daily bombarded with new, better, more exciting treatments. Try Enbrel! Try Humira! Miracle drugs!Get your NSAIDS! Get your DMARDS! Pump more chemicals into your system. Side effects? What side effects? You have a choice; accept the side effects or get sicker and sicker. In order to allay our fears, the drug companies publish the results of their clinical tests. This double blind study proved that that lethal chemical reduced your swelling more than another, equally lethal chemical. Do they think they’re playing with babies? Yes. That’s exactly what they think. Arthritis is such a horrible, debilitating disease that we’ll try anything to reduce the symptoms. And that’s exactly what these awful drugs do. They reduce the symptoms, temporarily. As the symptoms creep back, your rheumatologist increases the drug or experiments with other lethal concoctions to reduce your swelling or pain. We’re told there’s NO cure for arthritis. We’re told that no one knows the cause. Really! More that thiry years ago we sent men to play golf on the moon. But we can’t pin point even one cause for this crippling disease? It’s time for a reality check. The drug companies will continue to pump out really expensive chemicals, ostensibly helpful. Our doctors will continue to serve up the concoctions fed to them by the drug compaines. Unless we refuse to go along with this travesty. We don’t need a revolution. We don’t even need to take on our doctors or the drug companies. We only need to pool our resources and conduct our own quiet experiments. We need to experiment with our habits. Just take one aspect of our life and alter it for one month. For example, are you a heavy coffee drinker? I’m pretty well wired to the ceiling by mid-day. Cut coffee from your diet for one month. Document any changes to your system resulting from this. You may, of course, suffer withdrawal symptoms but you may also experience a very welcome reduction in arthritic pain and swelling. That’s just one suggestion. We have lots more. Feed-back from our brave experimenters will eventually allow us to make real recommendations. The revolution has started! Patricia R. Corps Compared to Limited Liability Companies

Monday, September 17th, 2007

By Richard Chapo If you start a business, you should strongly consider forming an entity to protect you from liability. Corporations and limited liability companies are two of the more popular choices. The first thing to understand is a corporation is a different business structure than a limited liability company. Many people get them confused. The terms used in relation to a corporation are often also used for limited liability companies, which is incorrect and creates all kind of confusion. Lets take a closer look at both entities. A corporation is just about the oldest business entity we have that is still in use today. The corporation comes to us from English law. It is based on a legal fiction, to wit, the corp is an independent person. As a result, the incorporation of your business is a way to shield yourself from personal liability for any business problems such as lawsuits. The corporate entity, however, does not shield you from criminal liability as the folks at Enron can tell you. A corporation is formed by filing articles of incorporation with the relevant secretary of state. All business entities are controlled by the states. There is no federal system. Regardless, the owners of a corporation are known as shareholders. If you buy shares of Google on the stock market, you are a shareholder and owner although probably of a small percentage. The corporation is controlled overall by a Board of Directors. When they meet, the general direction of the business is discussed and any resulting decisions are recorded in the minutes of the corporation. The day to day running of the corporation is controlled by the officers, of which the CEO is the top dog. The officers report to the Board. From a tax perspective, the corporation can be taxed as a stand alone entity, known as a C-corp, or on a pass through basis, known as an S-corp. A limited liability company is similar to a corporation in that it provides a shield of protection from business problems. The LLC is a relatively new entity. The first law authorizing its use as an entity was put on the books in the late 1970s in Wyoming. In the late 80s, the IRS issued a favorable tax ruling on the LLC and other states rushed to create their own LLC laws. You do not incorporate an LLC. Instead, you organize it by filing Articles of Organization with the Secretary of State. The owners of an LLC are not shareholders, they are members. The real advantage to an LLC is it does not require the formalities of a corporation. It is a technical subject, but just understand that things are much easier to run. Another big advantage of an LLC is you can elect to be taxed as a partnership by the IRS. With such an election, the business losses and debts pass through to your personal returns. It is comparable to an S-corporation, but usually occurs in a more favorable result when it comes time to file your taxes. So, what entity should you choose for your particular business? Well, there is no general correct answer. Instead, one needs to look at the particulars of the business and make a decision. Richard A. Chapo is with SanDiegoBusinessLawFirm.com - providing incorporation services in California. Choose Truck Driving For a Career With Big Benefits

Saturday, September 15th, 2007

By Tom Sample There’s just something about hitting the open road that appeals to many. For some, the allure is so strong they make it their careers. And, with plenty of good reasons beyond the fun, too. Trucking is a fantastic career choice and even a great personal business for just about anyone to get involved in. Truck drivers will cite a number of reasons as to what drove them to the career choice. These include: * Pay. Good, reliable truck drivers are hard to find. Inasmuch, trucking companies tend to pay top dollar for their drivers’ time and expertise. This is especially so for drivers who are willing to tackle the long hauls. The money that can be had is incredible and oftentimes more than many college graduates make. * Benefits. Many big trucking companies offer major benefits to their drivers. Benefits can include medical, dental, life insurance, vision and even retirement. With benefits packages rivaling Fortune 500 companies, drivers get very good compensation for their efforts. * Bonuses. Depending on the company worked for, the loads carried and the distance traveled, bonuses might fit in the equation as well. These can be attached to delivery time tables, safety records or simply for longevity with a company. * Freedom. Many companies provide truckers their choice of flexible schedules designed to offer the most choice possible to retain the best drivers. Truckers can work local runs, long distance runs and even just cross region runs. The choices are many. Getting into trucking isn’t for everyone, however, and it’s not a career that can be jumped into in a single day. The career requires specialized training and licensing. Big rigs are not little cars, they take some expertise and know how to run and operate. They’re serious machines that deserve a healthy level of respect from their drivers to ensure safe and proper operation. For those wishing to enter the field, there are plenty of schools available to help teach the rules of the road and how best to properly handle rigs. These schools are generally short-term ventures that come with job placement assistance. Once the courses are completed, the drivers will, however, have to pass state licensing tests, as well. Schools for truck drivers include the basics of the rigs, how to take care of them and, of course, how to drive them. The classes include hands-on training, too, ensuring drivers released from the academies fully understand how to operate the machines that will be in their charge. For those who decide to go into trucking, the field is a fantastic one that offers lots of choices. Licensed drivers can work for others, start their own businesses, or even perform occasional hauls with rental trucks to pick up extra money when it’s desired. The choices offered by the field are many and the benefits and pay scales are nothing to sneeze at either. Hitting the open road in a big rig isn’t for everyone, but for those who enjoy the lifestyle and the freedom offered, nothing compares. Getting into the field requires some specialized training, but all in all, the investment in time and money is well worth the rewards. Starting down the road to a trucking career isn’t difficult either. #1 Resource Big rig driving. http://www.bigrigsite.com Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Tom_Sample http://EzineArticles.com/?Choose-Truck-Driving-For-a-Career-With-Big-Benefits&id=248944 buy propecia online buy cheap generic propecia lowest price for propecia cheapest price for propecia buying propecia online

Finding a Connecticut Child Support Lawyer

Saturday, September 15th, 2007

By Jean Mahserjian Finding a Connecticut child support lawyer is a significant decision for any person to make. The individual who you retain will be responsible for getting or preserving your rights to your kids, your assets, and your earnings. In fact, retaining a Connecticut child support lawyer may also turn out to be an awfully stressful undertaking. Do it properly and you can relax. Do it incorrectly and you may spend years recovering losses that should have been avoided. There are several time-tested strategies that you might want to be employing when you hire a Connecticut child support lawyer. Prior to your beginning this process, you should consider the type of case that you could need legal counsel for. What is the likelihood that you will be trying to mediate your child support lawsuit? What is the likelihood that you will be seeking to negotiate? Or, will your case will be the type of matter that lands in the courthouse and becomes a bitter child support battle? You can locate a Connecticut child support lawyer who limits his/her practice to these different ways of addressing matters and you had better hire the type of Connecticut child support lawyer who is best suited for the case that you are involved in. If you are going to be dealing with a bitter battle, you should not hire a mediation lawyer to handle the case. Also, if you are going through a mediation process, the worst thing you could do is hire a Connecticut child support lawyer who will attempt to create problems and move you into litigation. So, to begin in the process of hiring a Connecticut child support lawyer is to decide the type of case that you have. After you finish that, ask other people for assistance. Since the rate at which we divorce in the US hovers at fifty percent, it is probable that you are acquainted with a few people who have had experience with a child support lawsuit. Ask them about their process, how they retained a Connecticut child support lawyer, and how their lawyer worked out on their behalf. After you have gotten information about a couple Connecticut child support lawyers that you acquired from checking with other people, go online and research each lawyer and any others that you encounter on the internet. If a Connecticut child support lawyer has a website, you can study it and check to find out if they have posted articles on child support law. You can also check to determine if they have promoted their practice on the web on the issue of child support law. You should be able to obtain quite a lot of prudent information about how any particular lawyer approaches lawsuits and cares for their clients by studying their website. Subsequent to your reviewing the Connecticut child support lawyer sites, produce a list of Connecticut child support lawyers who you believe you would be relaxed conferencing with. Contact the office of every child support lawyer and plan an initial appointment. A few of those lawyers will charge a fee for an initial consultation; the more experience the lawyer has, the more likely that you will be charged for time with that lawyer. When you attend to an interview/evaluation with a Connecticut child support lawyer, be prepared. Spend the time to write an outline about your marriage, family background and the issues facing you now. If you or your mate have filed any petitions in court, be sure that you have them with you. Take recent income tax returns or a recent financial statement so that the child support lawyer can look at your financial history before being asked questions regarding the “final result”. Make a point to ask each Connecticut child support lawyer questions concerning how that professional’s office contends with client phone calls, emails or other questions. If you will be engaging a child support lawyer who has no other lawyer in their law office, be prepared for a delay on those occasions when you demand a response. That lawyer could have more clients who have needs just as critical as yours, and any lawyer can help out only one client at one time. Even though there is that issue, there could be a Connecticut child support lawyer who you feel is perfect for you who is also a solo practitioner. That is a trade off that you may need to adjust to. Once you have finished each meeting and examined the answers to all of your questions, determine which Connecticut child support lawyer meets all your requirements and one that you are at ease with and which you believe will work with you to get the type of outcome that you require. Jean Mahserjian has practiced family law for close to two decades and is the author of many articles and books devoted to helping consumers understand family law and child support. How to Create Instant Rapport with Your Interviewer

Friday, September 14th, 2007

By Michael Soliatis Getting an interview is hard enough. Youve already spent time and effort writing your resume and distributing it. Now youve got to the all important interview. Only one person will get the job so you owe it to yourself to make the best possible impression. If you can make yourself instantly likeable you will have an important head start. Ever noticed how lovers in a bar will sit facing each other across a small table and adopt the same pose. Their synchronicity indicates a desire to be in tune with each other. As one changes position watch how the other will soon adopt the same new position so that their bodies remain synchronized. This behaviour is called mirroring because they place their bodies so that they are a mirror image of each other. And this behaviour isnt just confined to lovers. Watch a small group of people in any meeting, whether social or business, and youll soon be able to tell who is in tune with whom and the ones that are feeling less comfortable with their companions. Next time you are with someone make a point of adopting the same body position. If they are standing at a bar with one elbow on the bar and their ankles crossed, stand next to them in the same pose. You may be surprised at how quickly they respond more warmly towards you. As they change posture wait a few seconds and then slowly slide into their new position. Dont be shy because they wont consciously notice that your movements are deliberate. But their subconscious will be aware and interpret your mirroring as a friendly gesture. They will also feel safer facing someone who looks the same. The first time I heard about this technique I was somewhat skeptical. I had to attend a business meeting with someone many miles away so I thought I would try mirroring him on the basis that if he realised what I was doing or reacted unfavourably it wouldnt matter much as at least I wouldnt have to make the same long journey again. I decided that I would mirror him but not lead our discussion. Instead I would let him do all the talking and only talk when necessary. We sat on opposite sides of his desk and right from the beginning I adopted his pose. Each time he changed position I would follow within a minute or so. He was a smoker but I am not so I held a pen whilst he smoked. Our meeting began at two oclock and I thought it would last about an hour or an hour and a half at most. But I was in for a big surprise. After two hours there was still no sign from him that our meeting should end. For my part I was intrigued at how well we were getting along. He kept telling me how pleased he was that I had come so far to meet him and how much he was enjoying our conversation. This was a surprise especially since I had hardly spoken. When it got to half past five I had to interrupt and make my apologies for bringing our meeting to a close. Again he thanked me profusely for visiting him. Clearly the fact that I had been a good listener was very important but without my mirroring I do believe he would not have felt so at ease with me. Since then I have mirrored people in all sorts of situations and have always had a positive response. More recently I have introduced mirroring to job candidates who have all found it beneficial. It even works if you are being interviewed by a board. As a board member asks a question, swivel in your seat to face the questioner and at the same time slide your body into the same posture they have. Mirroring happens unconsciously between people who like each other. By deliberately mirroring you are simply showing that you are in tune with another with the result that you will receive a positive response. Try it with the next person you meet. Once you are sure of its beneficial effect you will have the confidence to use it at your next interview. Of course you will still have to prepare for the interview and answer the interview questions correctly but mirroring will certainly tip the balance in your favour.
